7x7th Street show enjoys huge success
With a four star rating from ‘The List’, 7x7th Steet opened its seven doors to a ‘musical promised land’ at Summerhall on August 1st with a bustling private view and an unforgettably initimate one-off gig by the legendary Achie Shepp. In a special moment, Shepp performed a tender version of the late Hugh Hopper’s ballad ‘Memories’, a song popularised by Robert Wyatt, another 7×7 collaborator, who was in the audience on the night.
7x7th Street is a full-size, walk-in installation housing seven sound sculptures, which the viewer is invited to explore as a familiar yet completely new world, in which our shared cultural iconography is rearranged and reimagined to magical effect. By poplar demand, the show has been extended until November at Summerhall, Edinburgh.
